Considering a new PC? It doesn’t have to come bundled with MS Office at an increased price. There is a free alternative. OpenOffice, an open source project, is a multiplatform, multilingual office suite. It is compatible with all major office suites, and is free to download, use, and distribute.

Items in parentheses indicate OpenOffice compatibility extensions.
Impress – presentation program (ppt,pot,others)
Writer – word processor (doc, rtf, txt, html, others)
Math – math function creator (open office only)
Calc – spreadsheet (xls, xlt, html, others)
Draw – drawing (open office only)
Base – database (open office only)
